Xanthan Gum

Description

Xanthan Gum powder absorbs water very quickly. If added directly to water without sufficient mixing, the outer surface hydrates rapidly and can form gel clumps, making it more difficult to fully disperse the powder.For best results, pre-mix Xanthan Gum thoroughly with any other dry powdered ingredients in your formulation before adding to water. Gradually sprinkle the blended powders into agitated water while continuing to mix until fully dispersed. Allow several minutes for the gum to fully hydrate and develop viscosity.

For easier incorporation, Xanthan Gum can first be blended with glycerin, propanediol, or other water-soluble liquids before adding to the water phase. It is typically added during the water phase of formulations.

Typical usage levels:

• Thin serums and liquid gels: 0.1% – 0.3%
• Lotions and emulsions: 0.2% – 0.5%
• Thick gels and suspensions: 0.5% – 2%

Xanthan Gum is compatible with a wide variety of cosmetic ingredients and performs well over a broad pH range.
